This body of work is an inquiry into the long-lived cultural history of the slave trade and how it changed Ghana’s systems that could have developed at its own pace. It also examines the psychological, political, and economic effects of the slave trade on Ghanaian society and how Ghana is grappling with the legacy of the slave trade today. Through a mix of archival research, I explored the legacy of the slave trade and its lasting effects in Ghana. In addition, this work looks at how Ghana is dealing with the ongoing effects of colonialism and how it is working to create a more equitable future for its citizens. I also examine the role of Afro-descendants in Ghana and the ongoing struggle for recognition and rights. Finally, this body of work looks at how Ghana is actively engaging in the global debate about slavery and how it is working to ensure that the memory of those affected is remembered and honored.
